Shannon’s Story: Starting for Agility, Staying for Life

Shannon’s Story
Beyond the Course: How agility led Shannon to a lifetime of strength
Meet Shannon
Killy, her border collie, needs her at her best for agility, and that’s what set her on this journey. Shannon grew up a farm girl—active, always on the move—but she was never truly fit. And that difference? It’s something you have to feel to understand.
At first, it was about strength. She rewired how her core worked, built muscle, and lost 15lbs.
But the real game-changer? Speed.
Sprinting across the agility course, keeping up with Killy, and feeling that powerful drive in her legs. Now, her knees are happy, her movement is fluid, and she’s faster than she ever thought possible.
She has a weekly treadmill date – dutifully doing her weekly sprint sessions, training with intention, and pushing her limits.
Sprinting isn’t just a workout; it’s a ritual. Every session sharpens her agility performance, builds explosive power, and reinforces that she belongs in this sport.
And it doesn’t stop there—her strength training keeps her resilient, balanced, and prepared for every turn, sprint, and jump. With every lift, every rep, she’s reinforcing her foundation, proving to herself that she’s not just here to keep up—she’s here to thrive.
But the biggest shift? Fitness isn’t just about agility anymore—it’s about her.
One day, she saw women in their 80s crushing their workouts and had an epiphany: This is what it’s about. Longevity, strength, independence—for life.
What started as a way to support her dog has turned into something so much bigger. Now, she’s in it for her. And she’s only getting faster.
Shannon is an amazing dog trainer in Vancouver, BC. You can learn more about her here.
